New Disability Assessment Model Debated
1 / 4

The Laws on Rights of Persons with Disabilities and on Assessment of Person’s Functionality were adopted in 2021. Now, the regulations proposed by the legislative package providing for amendments and addenda to the Law on Local Self-Government and a number of related laws aim to harmonize the terms and concepts of related laws.

The RA Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Tatevik Stepanyan, presenting the issue at the sitting of the NA Standing Committee on Labor and Social Affairs, noted that in the case of citizens who applied for disability assessment, the assessment with the international classification of functionality will be launched for the first time from February 1, 2023, and in case of re-examination until December 31, 2023, the current medical-social examination. In this logic, there is a need for legal regulations in related laws.

The MP Zaruhi Batoyan proposed amendments to the Laws on Rights of Persons with Disabilities and on Assessment of Person’s Functionality, which the Committee approved.

The Committee endorsed the legislative package.
